Issue:
The system experiences significant slowness when performing basic tasks such as opening PDFs, navigating through files, and sending emails. Users may also encounter frequent disconnections from the network or VPN, contributing to degraded performance.
Cause:
The issue occurs because OneDrive was not configured properly. Known folders were not set to be always available on the device, causing delays when accessing files stored in the cloud.
Resolution:
To resolve the performance issue caused by OneDrive configuration, follow these steps:
- Open OneDrive settings on the affected system.
- Locate the Known Folders (such as Desktop, Documents, and Pictures) within OneDrive.
- Set the property of these folders to "Always keep on this device". This ensures that the files are stored locally and do not require downloading from the cloud each time they are accessed.
- Inform the user about the new location of the known folders after the configuration change and how to treat as Internet based files.
- Advise the user that there may be an initial delay when opening files as the system synchronizes and caches the data locally.
